Nomen est Omen

The city was named after Catherine I, wife of Peter the Great. In 1924 the Bolsheviks changed the name to Sverdlovsk in honour of Yakov Mikhailovich Sverdlov, the same revolutionary who had sent executioner Yakov Yurowsky to the city. In 1991, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the city regained its historical name.

The metall, that was used for building the roof of the Englisch Parliament, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty, has been produced in Ekaterinburg.
