Mix it, baby! – The best smoothies

Neither thin nor bland, but creamy, thick and nutritious. For a vitamin-packed beverage that also tastes good, nothing tops a smoothie.

Of course, you can buy mass-produced juices at the supermarket. And drink them, too. But juice, especially from large factories, is just half the battle when it comes to a healthy diet. A lot of the vitamins and fruit structures get lost during the production process. And more often than not, chemicals are added as artificial preservatives. Or sugar to make the juice taste good. But sugar is pure poison. Smoothies, on the other hand, are liquid happiness. What to do? If you’re in a hurry, then stop off at the specialist: Daluma in Berlin-Mitte is just the thing. You can also have a bite to eat there if you like.

But even if your appointment calendar is full of things to do, places to go and people to see, there’s always time for a quick stop at your local organic market. The fruits and vegetables in your shopping bag should then find their way into the vegetable tray of your refrigerator. Any additional ingredients or toppings (dates, nuts, etc.) should also be stored in a cool – but not cold – place.

Instead of turning into a couch potato with a bag of snacks in front of the TV, fruits and vegetables will now play the main role in your evening. Wash and cut the desired amount, then blend until thick and creamy. Store in closed glass jars in the refrigerator and top with a few extras the next morning. Depending on the combination, your smoothie is not just a power breakfast but also contains the necessary amount of fruits, vitamins, minerals and trace elements for the entire day. All in just a few delicious sips. Will you still need a breakfast? The thick and creamy power drink packs the punch of a whole meal. If in doubt, you could still add a few flakes – but please no sweetened industrial cereal – for a full feeling guaranteed.

The trend these days is towards green smoothies. Only vegetables such as cucumbers, broccoli or kale. That’s not everyone’s cup of tea. A few dates or a fresh apple mixed in will lend the smoothie a touch of sweetness, which should cover the predominantly grassy taste and make the drink more palatable. Only fruits, all green or a blend – smoothies have got what it takes to bring some balance into your daily routine. In the mood?

Try this at home!

If somebody knows anything about smoothies, it’s Ella Woodward – she even wrote a book about the delicious juices.
